Neighborhoods/Streets
The
Flats
The Flats is the name for the lowlands near the
mouth of the Cuyahoga River. Cleveland's earliest
settlers chose this area for their cabins, but the
swampy environment caused so much illness that most
soon migrated to higher ground. The Flats ultimately
were abandoned to commerce and industry; shipping
and steel production took over during the 1900s.
In the 1970s and 1980s the area enjoyed a new vitality
as nightclubs and restaurants sprouted up. The nonprofit
Flats Oxbow Association was organized in 1978 to
promote the economic well-being of the area. Today,
the Flats is Cleveland's entertainment district,
with more than 60 restaurants and nightclubs, an
outdoor amphitheater and boardwalks and patios along
the riverfront.
Parks
And Gardens

Botanical Garden
11030 East Blvd. (east of downtown in University
Circle), Cleveland, OH, United States.
Known as the "Garden Center of Greater Cleveland"
back in 1930, the Botanical Garden is the oldest
urban civic horticultural center in the country.
Kids can explore the interactive Hershey Children's
Garden.
Wineries/Breweries
Great
Lakes Brewing Co.
2516 Market Ave., Cleveland, OH, United States.
The six buildings that make up the brewery were
stables and a warehouse for the Schlather Brewing
Company at the turn of the century. The buildings
have been restored to expose the grandeur of the
gabled roofs and cork walls. The two-story brew
house has full glass walls so you can see the brewmasters
at work.
